I have discovered that when I try to write what I don’t know, it is often because I want to do it for myself, and not because I want to do it for other people, and the whole thing ends up reading like a bad date: forced, flat, awkward.

When you write what you know, just like when artists paint what they see, the result is magic.

As long as you are a student of life, as you said, there is no shame in writing what you know, because you have the potential to know so many things through a lifetime of learning.
